As a UNC Asheville student, faculty, or staff member, you automatically have access to all programs and facilities by using your RockyCard ID. With your membership, you’ll have access to group exercise classes, a 6-lane swimming pool, multipurpose and racquetball courts, a cardio and weight fitness room, an indoor track, locker rooms, and more. Retirees also receive free membership but must purchase a RockyCard if they do not own a UNC Asheville-issued form of identification that has an ID number on the front. Eligibility

  • Affiliate Memberships are available to spouses, partners, and dependents of UNC Asheville sponsors or retirees who share a physical address.
  • Campus Partner Memberships are available to MAHEC, Forest Services at UNCA, and employees of Chartwells and Follett at UNC Asheville who are employed full-time, working for at least 30 hours a week for at least nine months out of the year
  • Alumni Memberships are available to UNC Asheville alumni and those who will be alumni by the membership start date.
  • OLLI Memberships are available to active members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville.
  • AB Tech Pool Memberships are available to AB Tech faculty and staff. 

Eligibility of minors

Dependent minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Entry is not permitted to the Sherrill Fitness Center for anyone under 16 years of age. Entry is not permitted to the pool for children in diapers or 4 years old and younger.

Services

Membership includes access to the Student Recreation Center and the Sherrill Center including the indoor track, multipurpose courts, racquetball courts, and Justice Center Pool. Please note that the Cycling Studio, Esports Center, and Outdoor Gear Rentals are only available to UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff.  We operate collegiate recreational facilities, and therefore our hours of operation and services are limited to what we can provide with student employment availability and the academic calendar. Thank you for your understanding as we will experience reduced hours during academic breaks.

Equipment Rentals

Equipment for each building can be checked out by members in exchange for an active RockyCard. All equipment is cleaned and inspected after each use.

  • Racquetballs and Birdies

*Volleyball, pickleball, and badminton nets are available for set up during Open Rec hours upon request.

Locker Reservations

The Student Recreation Center and Sherrill Center offer men’s, women’s, and gender-neutral locker room spaces with access to showers, bathrooms, lockers, and changing areas.Annual locker rentals are currently on hold, if you have any questions regarding rentals, please contact recreation@unca.edu.

Cost

Memberships are sold at semester and annual rates. Annual purchases are only available for the August – July membership term. Please contact us for the exact dates that memberships will be valid for each term (Fall, Spring, Summer, and Annual). 

Retiree memberships are free, but the purchase of a RockyCard is required if you do not own a UNC Asheville-issued form of identification.

To apply for a membership, please submit this form for review. We do our best to respond to all requests within two business days. 

When your membership request is approved, every prospective member will need to follow these steps:

  • Read the Membership Approval Email: You will receive a membership approval email, please carefully read all contents of this email and follow the instructions. 
  • Create Your Online Membership Account: You will receive a link and instructions to create your online account in the Membership Approval email.  
  • Purchase Your Membership: You can either stop by the Student Rec Center Service Desk in person or pay over the phone at 828.323.5650. All payments are now cashless, all purchases should be made via Visa, Discover, or Mastercard. 
  • Obtain a RockyCard: If you don’t already own a University-issued ID with an ID number printed on the front, you can stop by the RockyCard Office in Governors Hall, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. 

Guest Passes

Campus Recreation encourages you to bring guests to help you reach your fitness goals and offers members the opportunity to purchase guest passes throughout the semester. Guest passes can be purchased by RockyCard holders at the service desk in the Student Recreation Center. The guest and RockyCard holder must both be present to purchase a guest pass. Payment is now accepted via Visa, Mastercard, or Discover only.
