Welcome to the Health and Counseling Center

UNC Asheville’s Health and Counseling Center provides services that are designed to promote and maintain the health of all students to maximize academic success. We are an integrated center which offers medical, mental health, psychiatric, and health promotion services. The professionals work collaboratively with one another and include:  physicians, physician assistants, family nurse practitioners, registered nurses, certified nurse assistants, pharmacists, licensed professional counselors and highly qualified support staff. We strive to meet the individual needs of each student by providing confidential health and counseling services and referring to appropriate community resources, if needed.

All students are entitled to use the Health & Counseling Center free of charge and most services are provided free of charge or at a nominal fee. A student’s health insurance does not impact their ability to access these on-campus services.

What We Do

Health & Counseling Center services are available to all currently enrolled UNC Asheville students. It offers medical, counseling, and psychiatric services and can be accessed through appointments.  Although we strive to accommodate student schedules, we generally operate on an appointment basis. Emergency counseling services are available for students in distress. For medical emergencies, call 911.

Our mental health professionals see students for a wide variety of issues including but not limited to anxiety, depression, substance use/abuse, anger, bipolar disorder, relationship issues, and self-awareness. Our center works from a solution-focused, brief counseling model due to high demand for services. If an issue comes up that is outside the scope of our services, you and your counselor may explore finding an appropriate off-campus resource.

The Campus Assessment, Response, and Education (CARE) and Crisis Team is an interdisciplinary unit that works collaboratively to provide intervention, resources, and assistance to students that are struggling with their success at UNC Asheville. College is a time of continual growth and transition and some of these transitions and life events may spark personal crises that inhibit a student’s personal and academic success. The CARE and Crisis Team partners with faculty, staff, students, parents, and families to address these concerns and crises to ensure the health and safety of all our students.
