CLOSER, At The Intersection of God and Gay, A Public Storytelling Event

November 14 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Free

Do you remember CLOSER?

On November 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wedge Brewing at Foundation, Blue Ridge Pride LGBTQIA+ Archive and UNC Asheville’s Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies program invite those who knew CLOSER and those who want to learn more about local LGBTQ+ history to a public storytelling event.

CLOSER, an LGBTQ+ organization that met at All Souls Cathedral for over 30 years beginning in 1987, is virtually invisible online. We want to document CLOSER’s history and their legacy of inclusion in our region.

The Blue Ridge Pride LGBTQIA+ Archive launched in 2019 under the leadership of Amanda Wray in collaboration with several undergraduate research students and UNC Asheville’s Special Collections. In four years, we’ve recorded and digitized 108 oral histories, making us the largest digitized LGBTQ+ archive in North Carolina and the largest LGBTQ+ oral history repository in the southeast.

This event is sponsored by WGSS, Blue Ridge Pride, and Buncombe County Special Collections. Thanks to Wedge Brewery at Foundation for gifting us the event space.
