  • Sexual Misconduct Policies
UNC Asheville has policies and procedures in place to address sexual misconduct on campus, including sexual or gender-based harassment, sexual assault, relationship and dating violence, and stalking.  Information about policies and resources relating to sexual misconduct is available on the Title IX Office webpage.

For Parents & Families

UNC Asheville is committed to promoting a safe environment for minors who participate in our programs and activities. We have taken a number of important steps to establish safeguards for your child:
  • We have established a Protection of Minors on Campus Policy to ensure all Programs or Activities involving Minors promote the safety and well-being of youth.
  • We have developed a website that contains valuable information on the protection of minors at UNC Asheville.
  • We have established clear requirements for reporting abuse, maltreatment, and neglect.
  • We are educating members of the University community about the signs of abuse, maltreatment, and neglect and how to make a report in accordance with North Carolina state law and University Policy.
  • We are requiring all Program Administrators and Staff who participate in programs or activities involving minors to clear criminal background checks and other screening requirements.

In addition to the steps UNC Asheville has taken, there are important things you can do to protect your child:

  • In case of an emergency, immediately call UNC Asheville’s Police Department at 828.232.5000 or Asheville Police Department at 911.
  • Let UNC Asheville know promptly by contacting the Office for Institutional Integrity and Access via email (hlindkvi@unca.edu) or phone (828.232.5658) if your child expresses concern about behavior that may be abusive, neglectful, or harmful whether by an adult or a peer.
  • Talk to your child using age-appropriate language about the following:
    • The difference between appropriate and inappropriate touching.
    • The fact that children can say NO to any touch they don’t want and that they should trust and pay attention to their feelings and ask questions when they feel uncomfortable.
    • The fact that children can and should speak up if they ever feel unsafe.
