Protection of Minors
UNC Asheville hosts many programs that bring minors to our campus, and the University is committed to ensuring the care and safety of these guests. All programs involving minors taking place on University property, as well as University-sponsored youth programs held off campus, are required to register and receive prior approval. The campus community is also obligated to act immediately when we reasonably suspect a youth may be at risk.
Registration
All programs and activities involving minors must be registered with the Office for Institutional Integrity and Access at least forty-five (45) calendar days prior to the start date of the program. To register a Program or Activity involving Minors, please complete the online Registration Form.
Reporting Abuse or Neglect of Minors
All members of the UNC Asheville community and Program Staff who observe, have knowledge of, or reasonable suspicion that a minor has been or is in danger of abuse, neglect, or violent offense are obligated to report the matter to UNC Asheville Police and the Office for Institutional Integrity and Access. If there is an imminent risk of harm or threat to safety, immediately call 911 or (828) 232-5000 to reach UNC Asheville Police directly.
Training
Program Administrators and Staff must complete training regarding the Protection of Minor policies and issues prior to any direct contact or virtual contact with minors. Please email the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Institutional Integrity and Access (hlindkvi@unca.edu) for instructions on completing the required training and certification forms.
Resources and Policies
To promote a safe and welcoming campus community for minors participating in University-sponsored or affiliated activities, UNC Asheville has implemented policies and procedures to address any conduct that violates our community principles. For those supervising or working in Programs or Activities involving Minors or whose youth are participating in programs conducted at UNC Asheville, please review the “Resources and Policies” page.
